R&A Architecture + Design is a young, energetic architecture and design firm focused on creative solutions in multiple scales and typologies, including commercial, hospitality, residential, and mixed-use.  Founded in 2012 by award-winning Principals, Christian Robert and Benjamin Anderson then joined by Principal Shawn Gehle in 2017, R&A globally leverages a broad portfolio of experience in transformative architecture and interiors projects.
Focusing on more local, community-scaled projects, R&A believes that every project is an opportunity for transformation and impact. We believe in collaboration from all parties involved in a project, and the trust they have in our work. We value how curiosity feeds creativity, and how creative approaches yield innovative answers. We are intensely active in, and embrace related research. It is, after all, what benefits our core focus-to deliver fresh, new thinking at every point of our process.
Born in Germany, Christian studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. After a six month internship with Professor Peter Huebner at Plus+ Architects he received a Germany federal DAAD scholarship to attend Arionza State University Graduate Architecture Program. He received the Design Excellence Award for "Desert Dwelling" under Professor Max Underwood. After time in Arizona, inspired by the materiality of the Sonoran desert and works of local architects such as Rick Joy and Will Bruder, he received a summer internship with Gensler Architects in Santa Monica where he returned after graduating in Germany.
Christian worked for Naomi Langer Studio and Moore, Ruble & Yudell Architects and rejoined Gensler in 2004. He became an Associate in 2008 and for five years worked from pre-design through construction administration on the $650M high-rise, mixed-use Ritz-Carlton and J.W. Marriott Hotel and Residences at L.A.-Live tower. The project won the Urban Land Institute 2010 Gobal Excellence Award. He was promoted to Senior Designer and co-lead the architecture group in Gensler's San Diego office with the office's first ground-up office building on UCSD's east campus and for Southwestern College's Athletic Field House and Central Plant.

Benjamin received his Architectural education from the Cornell University School of Architecture. He currently maintains an award-winning and distinct portfolio of both international and local mixed-use architecture, having led the design of projects mixing retail, hospitality, multifamily-residential, cultural and commercial office typologies.
Benjamin previously served as a Design Director and Senior Associate at Gensler in Los Angeles, leading the design and management of large teams within the Retail, Entertainment, Mixed-Use, Sports and Urban Design studios throughout his tenure before co-founding R&A Design. His projects include an American Architecture Award for the Sarparea De Pandi Boutique Hotel and Villas in Puglia, Italy as well as the largest underground retail project in Asia-a 1,250,000 square-foot, $165,000,000 renovation and expansion of the COEX Mall in Seoul, Korea.
Benjamin was one of the co-founders of Gensler’s Computational Design Group, a research-based initiative focused on discovering, creating and implementing advanced digital design toolsets within the Gensler workflow, across its current 42 offices and over 3,500 employees.   Upon greater expansion and growth of the use of digital design tools within the firm, Benjamin served as the director of digital design for the Los Angeles office, overseeing all educational, research, and implementation initiatives.
